Rick Steves concentrates almost exclusively on Europe, and he distills each destination down into its fundamental sites. Lonely Planet is the ultimate encyclopedic guide. They cover everywhere and everything, for every class of travel - luxury to shoestring. Rough Guides put a special emphasis on cultural contexts, as well as being comprehensive in coverage. This one is no exception. Absolutely everything is here, but it's presented in a way that gives you insight into the cultural significance and the history behind it. Not too long ago Rough Guides were losing their way, looking for a strategy in an extremely competitive book market. The new series is great. This one on Norway is fantastic. Right up to date. A nice balance between heritage and eco tourism. Comprehensive listings, with a slight bent toward budget rather than luxury. Cute book, not what I was expecting. I bought this for my 2 year old son to try to get him excited about his little sister being born. This book seems like it would be better for a mixed family. Seems geared towards the younger sibling gaining an older brother. My son still likes the book so it will remain on our shelf.

This is a sweet and simple board book, with nice illustrations. Bought it as a shower gift for a family having their second kid, the first being a much older boy. Shows many things that a big brother can do (with a younger sibbling), such as push a swing, or go on a picnic with you, and at the end says "but best of all they can give you lots and lots of love." It follows the same pattern as the "What Fathers Do Best" book, that we own.My spouse improvised when previewing and reading it aloud, adding in little asides, which were perhaps a bit more true to life! ("Push you on a swing...or push you right off it...") Had my two older kids, (who mostly get along now, right? ;) ) giggling with laughter.

I bought this book for my nephew who is getting ready to become a big brother. He really enjoyed this book. We love all of Laura Numeroff's books and own What Mommy's Do Best, What Daddy's Do Best, What Aunt's Do Best, What Uncles Do Best and all of the If You Give A Mouse A Cookie books. I would highly recommend this book as well as any others by Laura Numeroff.

Cute book, but more for a sibling that has a brother. I originally bought it for the big brother, but it is geared toward the other sibling so I will be giving it new time to the sister. Not many words on each page so great for beginner readers or young kids with short attention spans.

A cute book to explain what a Big Brother can do with their newest sibling. Got it for my son before his baby sister arrived and this was his favorite!

My toddler loves this book and it helped us to prepare him for the arrival of his little brother. It is a super cute book!

This book was delivered in horrible shape. The covers were folded, and very easy to rip. I give this product 2 stars because it’s a sweet book, great for young children expecting a sibling, but it is already in such bad shape. Wouldn’t buy this product again.

Glad this book does not mention "mom" as it was very hard to find a book for a half sibling! Very happy I found this one!

This is a nicely written cookbook, a good starting place for beginning cooks or those who are beginning vegetarians. Mr. Bittman digs down to the starting position of those who would like to know where to start. I especially liked the section in vegetables which described which methods work best, or what vegetables to avoid eating raw, or which apples are for eating, cooking, or both. I was delighted for find the recipe for making seitan, and plan to try it soon. The photos are incredibly gorgeous. A little disappointed Bittman doesn't have sourdough in the bread section, and that there weren't a little more ideas for mushrooms, but all in all there are lots of great ideas in this book. If you are wondering how you are going to keep that promise to yourself about eating less meat, give this book a try. If you love someone who is totally clueless about cooking, this is a good starter book along with Julia Child's How to Cook. My husband, a lifelong vegetarian but not much of a cook, showed interest in trying some of Bittman's recipes, and stepping outside our "comfort zone". Worth the price of purchase for that alone.

Just got the book and haven't cooked from it yet. In browsing through, I found it to be the encyclopedic reference cookbook that I was looking for (sort of a Joy of Cooking for vegetarians), with lots of feasible recipes for dishes that my mostly-vegan family will eat and detailed instructions for buying, storing and and use of various ingredients. There are so many delicious-sounding recipes, I can hardly wait to try them. (Plum-Rosemary Upside-Down Cake, with alternate options for Fresh Pineapple, Berry, Apple, Ginger-Peach, Pear-Almond, Fresh fruit sorbet + a 2-page chart of variations), Crackers (easy basic recipe with 12 suggested alternate ingredients), Hand-made Fresh Pasta (with a chart of alternate grains to include), Eggless Pasta Dough, 8 ways to flavor pasta dough (including chocolate, herb and mushroom add-ins), Fried Tofu Wontons with Chives and Ginger, sushi, tamales, naan bread, a full chapters on grains, legumes, salads, soups (including Pho), desserts, beverages (including smoothies and coffee ), a 54-page chapter on Sauces, Condiments, Herbs and Spices, and so much more in its 832 pages that I can't begin to list more than a small percentage of the surprising contents. I'll be turning to this book first, before digging through my other cookbooks or searching the internet for recipes.

Wow! One of the better cookbooks I now have on my shelf. The layout and presentation of info is clear and easy to read and figure out. Many recipes to try. I'm a cook with many years of experience and I found myself learning from this book. This alone makes it a great cookbook.

I bought this book a couple of months ago and have hardly used any other cookbooks since. It includes a huge range of recipes, many of which include suggested substitutions that add both variety and flexibility. The recipes generally use ingredients that are easy to find, and many are quick enough to pull together after work. Everything I've tried has been good. My favorite so far is the falafel -- it's easy to prepare but fairly time-consuming to cook because it needs to be carefully fried in batches, but I liked it better than some of the falafel I've bought at restaurants.I'm mostly vegetarian, so I love having a huge book full of recipes I know I can eat. I also like that not many of the recipes are vegetarianized versions of things that usually contain meat, so the focus is on delicious, fresh, plant-based ingredients, rather than often-disappointing meat substitutes. My most avid carnivore friends and family have very happily eaten these recipes, maybe partly because they're not trying to pretend to be meat.

I just gave away my second copy of the older edition of this book and needed to replace it. This book is improved over the older one, and has nice photography as well. I love to cook and find Mark Bittman's books invaluable reference material. Excellent for researching ingredients, and as always, the simplicity of a basic recipe, followed by alternative versions, and recipe additions - all great! Our family is mostly vegetarian (no red meat at all) And I try to cook vegan most weekday evenings. I've found the recipes helpful for providing nutritional balance and full flavor.

I give 3 books as 'new cooker' gifts: How to Cook Everything, How to Bake Everything, and this one. Soon I will add a 4th: How to Grill Everything.Why? Because in this case you can judge the book by the cover. They really do explain practically everything a cook--especially a newbie--would need to know to manage very well indeed in a kitchen.There are full and direct instructions. Ways to vary recipes with simple changes. Well-organized recipes. Bittman is an exceptional food writer, and it shows time and again.I cook a lot. For a very long time I was a very strict vegetarian & oh, do I wish I'd had this book way back then.You will not be sorry you buy this wonderful, encyclopedic work.

I love this book and have been working my way through the recipes. I especially appreciate that Bittman has created lighter versions of some of the old standards by using less cheese.The photos are beautiful and the step by step instructions are clear.

About the Author

Gene Waddell has written books on architectural history, Indians, and museum work. His other books include Indians of the South Carolina Lowcountry, 1562–1751 and Collecting-Preserving-Exhibiting: a Theory of Museum Work. He writes primarily about the design and construction of buildings, but he has written articles on various topics including Greek Doric architecture, Westminster Hall in London, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, ancient Greek athletics, and the Indians of Cofitachequi. His articles have been published in Architectural History: Journal of Architectural Historians of Great Britain, in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, and in other scholarly journals. He has degrees in English and in Fine Arts from the College of Charleston and a degree in architectural history from UCLA. He is College Archivist at the College of Charleston and an adjunct professor in the Department of Art History. His previous positions include Director of the South Carolina Historical Society from 1976–1984, Associate Archivist at the Getty Center for the History of Art and the Humanities from 1985–1993, and Head of Collections Development for the Library of the Canadian Centre for Architecture from 1993–1996.

This boxed set of two beautiful cloth volumes is a masterly study of the historic Charleston building stock. I need to emphasize the "study" part of that statement because this book is intended for architectural historians and other researchers. This is not the kind of thing you put on your livingroom shelf for interior decorating or MLS photo shoots. It is NOT a coffee table book.The first volume contains the essays, and the second volume is the catalog of [sometimes very old] plates and photographs. Many of the buildings studied (houses, churches, courthouses, banks, schools, etc...) no longer stand. Mostly, people who buy this book will use it as a reference work.Consider purchasing it for your library if this is you passion or life's work. It's a must for any Charleston restorationist or fine building craftsman.

I absolutely loved this book! Michelle Outlaw is a great author. I look forward to reading more from her.

The story telling was direct and void of unnecessary sexual fillers. It actually felt as though this was truly the, beginning of a serious and mind blowing lesbian affair. My only wish is that there is a follow-up. I'm hooked on their story and want to know what's next!

Erotic, short , sweet, and to the point. I could read more stories in this series if they were to be published.

And just like that, I am a fan of Michele Outlaw. DRAINING is what writing and great literature are supposed to be about. With this book, she has proven that she possesses staying power and I am utterly convinced that even greater works of erotica are soon going to be forthcoming from this fantastic author. I congratulate her on a job well done and I await her next offering. By the way, I wonder how she does it? Her writing flows with such effortless grace that it is mind-boggling. Well, it's her secret, but our good fortune. READ THIS BOOK!

I enjoyed reading this book immensely (although it took awhile!) and found myself thoroughly immersed in Leopold's life, his influences, and his evolving thoughts on humanity's dealings with the natural world. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to truly understand Leopold's land ethic; it is often taught in philosophy classes, but usually only by focusing on the one essay in the Sand County Almanac, and that's misleading. It's also a must-read for anyone who wants to read about a thoughtful man whose life was dedicated to his work and his family, who managed to do an amazing amount of things in the course of his lifetime and essentially create the field of wildlife management, not to mention inspire the field of conservation biology. Leopold is often quoted and often referenced; this book gives you the man and the story behind those tidbits.

Just saw the "Green Fire" dvd and had to learn more great book-great man

I am writing a biography of another leader in the environmental movement, John S. Apperson, Jr. (1878-1963, so I was really pleased to find this. I also found a biography of Benton MacKaye, who founded the Appalachian Trail. It is important to understand how the lives of these three contemporaries intertwined and overlapped. It provides a great dose of intellectual history!

I have never read any treatment of Leopold that brought out the riches of his life and thought so well--insights about the land, of course, but also about people, institutions and progress. This biography was most enjoyable, deeply moving and powerfully educational.

This is an extremely well-written informative biography about one of the giants of ecology and nature conservation.

Haven't finish yet, 529 pages, however got sidetracked by A Sand County Almanac - Aldo LeopoldThat's the magical book.

This was a gift. They are happy with it.

Aldo Leopold did so much for conservation efforts in the United States and Curt Meine did well to present not only Leopold's professional contributions but Meine also provides readers with good insights into Leopold the man. This is a fine read about a truly wonderful human being.
