Utterly useless book. Its quite clear that the other reviews are based on the free DVD promised to them. The other test prep books are way better: pick any (Kaplan, Peterson, Barron etc.). This book is 100 pages with minimal info. What a scam.

This prep book is very informative and has covered a lot of lessons that I am sure will make my students to become successful in their high school placement test. I am a teacher and I purchased this book to help me provide good review and preparation guide to my students who will soon be taking the high school placement test for selective enrollment. I am confident that, after I go through with my students using this prep book, they will make it in the placement test. Thank you for having this prep book for the students.

I’m in heaven right now and not much could improve it… I have been waiting for a book like this for years and I could not be more impressed! It is beautifully designed and laid-out. Fascinating to read and perfectly comprehensive on the designers showcased, with the right amount of text for each. Over and above the fact that it is an essential reference book, it lets you connect to the human side of these designers that you’ve admired for years, yet knew so little of. These stories vanish as we do…but it’s good to know that someone took great care to save what he could find over the years, so he could share them with us in such a beautiful package. You will LOVE this book!

I bought this for my mom, but couldn't resist looking at it before I gave it to her - wow! Large size, great pictures, and interesting short bios of Hollywood designers from the silents up to modern times. Excellent buy for film buffs and/or fashionistas. By the way, I also looked at the Kindle edition - this really is at its best as a print book. Even an iPad Air screen doesn't quite match the printed page for the photos.

This book is wonderfully researched and full of great photos. It gives very interesting background on all these Hollywood costume designers, both well known and more obscure. I found it a fascinating read and a terrific addition to my collection of film history books. It's the perfect holiday gift for any classic movie buff.

I have always loved movies but had no idea how incredibly important costumes were until I read this book. This is a fascinating look behind the curtain, so to speak, at the history of the costumes and their creators.I was spellbound by the stunning photographs that wrap the text so artfully in this book. Pictures that have never been seen gathered from archives and private collectors enhance the storyline as you move through the decades.Bravo to Mr. Jorgensen for this massively important and brilliantly executed endeavor!

One of the most recent and definitive works on costume design in classic-era Hollywood, written by Jay Jorgensen (who previously authored a well-received book on Edith Head, the single best-known costume designer of vintage Hollywood), published under the imprint of Turner Classic Movies, *the* cable channel for vintage movies in the United States. This book, as befits its topic, is lavishly illustrated with hundreds of gorgeous photographs and other artwork, many of them full-page, showcasing the work of every significant designer working in American cinema from the first days of Hollywood into the 1980's.
