i have now studied more than 20 mysql and sql books and find this to be excellent and one of the three most useful because it explains and supplies working code that you can experiment with and write variations on for your purposes.

I have just finished this book for the second time. I cried both times. I smiled both times. I found myself in unutterable awe of the brilliance and courage of Maggie Kirton both times. Telling her story from the house's perspective had to be the only way to tell it in full, truthful and forthright, without staring at it head-on. I loved that the characters were given the names of insects and that her mother was a peacock. It gave true insight into their personalities and made it so very easy for the reader to envision. It also struck me that her mother was the only bird. And aren't insects a good part of a bird's diet? She just ate them alive, but the firefly was her favorite snack. I would love to have Maggie to hang out with, just to have ready access to a survivor with such a beautiful mind.

This book swallowed me whole. The writing is esquisitely Brilliant and Original. The language so familiar and reminicent to me, somehow. I found the first 1/2 of the book extremely difficult to read and yet too powerful to put down. As difficult as it certainly must have been to write this; the story ebbed and flowed naturally and without haste. The house telling the story is Genius on so many levels. I don't think anyone could tell this story from a first person perspective. For me as a reader, I can't help but see that the house is inevitably a part of firefly. The home of her subconscious mind, which she seamlessly taps into. This book has made a positive impact on me personally and has unexpectedly added itself to the collection of Faith and Inspirational reminding in my own daily life. Thank You So Much for sharing your story Maggie. You have written it in such a way that I think it could truly transform those who discover it. You become like the unnamed entity, seeing all, unwilling or unable to do anything except follow and watch. It is not an experience for the faint of heart or overemotional, the biased and skeptical, but is definitely one to read and remember.

My little girl (20 month old) and I love the illustrations in the book. There are so many little details to look at and it makes a great vocabulary lesson. We love the wheels on the bus song and although this one has slightly different wording than the one we know, it is still nice to get a visual. I still sing it to my daughter the way we know it and since she cant read yet she doesnt know any better. The book is the perfect size for your diaper/travel bag and it seems sturdy and well made. We are very happy with this adorable board book.

The Wheels on the Bus pudgy board book is adorable because the graphics are geared towards children and can be a springboard for other learning opportunities such as counting, facial expressions, ettiquette (politness), etc. It is quite durable and should hold up well with a lot of handling by tiny hands. The "pages" have a shiny and easy wipe-clean surface. I am pairing it with a FP Little People School Bus as a Christmas gift for my 1 1/2 year old grandchild this year. I recommend this book due to it's construction, graphics, teaching opportunities, and it contains most of the verses (or perhaps we made up some during my childhood years).

My daughter really enjoys the song so I thought I would buy her a book to go along with it. The book is really really small. Smaller than most board books. The colors look faded and dull. Was really looking forward to this book but was disappointed.

We started a tradition of bringing our little granddaughter a new board book each time we got to see her since we lived several hours apart.. It's great to be able to find a good variety of quality books for babies and toddlers in one place. The board books like this one are sung rather than read since they're based on nursery songs.I don't know who loves these board books the most, our one year old granddaughter or us!

My son loves this book, and of course you can't help but sing with it. It doesn't include all of the verses some people may be familiar with, but enough verses to be long enough without being too long. It is physically a pretty small book. My son likes to point to the dog and trucks in several of the detailed illustrations, too.

As another reviewer noted, this anthology contains some of the most important articles in the history of analytic philosophy, notably Quine's "On What There Is" (important for my own studies of the philosophy of mathematics is when he introduces his notion of ontological commitment, among other things), and his "Two Dogmas of Empiricism". For those two articles it is worth the price alone, but also for the reading of Frege and for Searle's ""Can Computers Think?", which contains a version of his now famous Chinese Room argument. All of the articles contained within are relevant and most were groundbreaking; all are thought-provoking and necessary reading for the student of analytical philosophy.

This anthology has many of the most important articles in analytic philosophy. I do wish, however, that it included articles on (1) Idealism, (2) Moore's critique of idealism and defense of common sens/the existence of an external world, (3) additional seminal articles in ethics ("Good and Evil", "How to Derive an 'Ought' from an 'Is', etc.).

It was required for a class I'm taking, but I've decided to keep the book because it's so helpful! I will use it for future papers / essays or anything thats I need it for!

Bought this for a class and referenced it once or twice to read the essays contained within. Interesting reading, but considering it is little more than a compendium of essays I think it could be cheaper.

This is an extraordinary anthology, not only in the sense that it includes the basic writings on philosophy of language (like Frege's "On Sense and Reference" and "The Thought", and the important reading of Bertrand Russell "On Denoting") but also contains readings on metaphysics which include portions of Wittgenstein's Tractatus, and Quine's "On What There Is". Contains also the readings of Quine's "Two Dogmas of Empiricism" and the reply of other philosophers to that reading, specially "In Defense of Dogma" by H. P. Grice and P. E. Strawson. Contains readings on Epistemology, Philosophy of Mind, and Ethics (which includes portions of G. E. Moore's Principia Ethica). It is the ideal anthology for anyone who wants to begin to study analytic philosophy.I enthusiastically recomend it.

I've read some of the other reviews of this book and overall agree with some of the issues raised (hours of very strict ABA to make an autistic child 'normal' at all costs, dismissing special interests as 'perseverations', etc.) but I want to point out that this book was first written years ago. First published in 1993, and at that point the author is looking back in time by several years, so the actual events probably took place in the mid to late eighties. At that point in time there weren't the online support groups, the various autism organizations, the plethora of well-known therapies from Floortime to Affective Based Language to RDI, or in general much awareness of what autism was at all. Parents were left to their own devices to do the best they could and, even if I disagree on some points, who out there could start from square one like that and still manage to come up with every answer, something we still haven't managed today?I will say that, having worked with dozens of autistic children, I find the recovery aspect of the story highly unusual. I've seen children that make tremendous progress in functioning, however, I've never witnessed a child going from totally autistic to totally not-autistic in the span of about two or three years. I'm not saying the diagnosis wasn't correct (although there do seem to be a subset of children who do some really classically autistic things as toddlers and yet do not end up being autistic,) just that I don't think this is typical, even with the best therapy programs.Overall, I applaud this book as a touching story of a family's strength and as a breakthrough in people's thinking on autism treatment. Stories like this one helped more people to see that there are ways to work with and teach autistic children. We may have refined our approach since then, but this realization was an important moment in treatment history.

Such a beautifully-written and informative book. I only take issue with the “recovery” aspect as examinations of the autistic brain have shown marked differences from the neurotypical brain. The author had no way of knowing this in the 80s, of course. There is no such thing as “full recovery” when your brain is differently shaped from the norm, particularly in the white matter where communication between hemispheres takes place. There will always be differences, as explained by Temple Grandin - “I see in pictures.” That said, the ability of these children for adaptation to cultural norms is amazing. I say this as a student and practicer of ABA and as the parent of a child with an ASD diagnosis. Also, check the DSM-5 for the most recent definition of ASD.

Wonderful book for families with an autistic child. I have a child with Down syndrome and wanted to learn more about ABA. This book was recommended by a field professional. As mothers of children with special needs we can all relate to the experience of navigating the field to find proper treatment and therapy in our desire to do the best for our munchkins (regardless of the diagnosis). Our experiences often include opening our homes to the help of strangers and trusting that they know what they're doing. This book sheds light on that very real experience and was a great introduction for me to ABA.

Every parent with a newly diagnosed child NEEDS this book. Excellent resource for creating a home ABA therapy program for a child with autism. I personally have a 7-year old son with severe autism and this book has been very well loved in our home.

As an ABA therapist, this book moved me to tears, and gave me the extra "push" to be my all for the families that I work with/for. A great read.

I began my journey into the world of autism when my 3-year-old son was diagnosed with PDD. At the time, you could have fit my knowledge of autism onto the head of a pin. LET ME HEAR YOUR VOICE was one of several books I purchased on Amazon and the first one I read once they arrived.My son's diagnosis left me utterly devastated. By the time I finished reading this book, I felt someone had turned on the light so I could begin to find my way. I was buoyed by the simple fact that recovery IS possible and this book served as a roadmap for me. I had also purchased Making a Difference: Behavioral Intervention for Autism - also by Catherine Maurice and began my own ABA program at home while awaiting my son's admission into a Special Ed preschool program. By the time my son began school 2 months later, the teachers and therapists were wondering why he'd been diagnosed with PDD as he was markedly different from other PDD kids. Now, less than 2 years later, his score on the CARS is in the non-autistic range.ABA is not the only treatment or cure and it is not for every child, but I believe it can bring about improvements that otherwise would not occur spontaneously. While the book is a strong advocate of ABA, it is a wonderful book to read for those who are new to the world of Autism. Giving this book as a gift would be one of the most thoughtful things you could ever do. If I had not read this book, it is doubtful I would have acquired the knowledge of autism I now have - this book was a primer for the sort of education I hope NO parent needs, but if they do, LET ME HEAR YOUR VOICE is the place to start.
