John T. F. Burgess is an assistant professor in the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alabama. Emily J. M. Knox is an assistant professor in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include information access, intellectual freedom and censorship, information ethics, information policy, and the intersection of print culture and reading practices. She teaches a course on intellectual freedom and censorship and a course on information ethics. She was awarded the Illinois Library Association Intellectual Freedom Award and was named a WISE Instructor of the Year in 2015. Her books include Book Banning in 21st Century America and Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loan on a Shoestring. She also contributed a chapter on religion and intellectual freedom to The Library Juice Press Handbook of Intellectual Freedom: Concepts, Cases, and Theories, the 2016 winner of the Eli M. Oboler Memorial Award for best published work in intellectual freedom. She received her PhD from the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University and her MLIS from the iSchool at Illinois. She also holds a BA in Religious Studies from Smith College and an AM in the same field from The University of Chicago Divinity School. This is an incredible story. It is well presented. The are other more detailed books, but this is a very good introduction, especially for younger readers. It is important that they know that despite the horrors of the Holocaust, there were decent people who helped Jews; in the case most of an incredible country

This book was bought for our oldest son to read during his school class reading time. He felt the book was at the fourth grade reading level (he's reading 7th to 8th level) and it didn't provide too much detail/background into the characters of each of the random stories.

Interesting read for young readers, even middle schoolers.

Very informative. Easy to read. Information every one should know about trying years of history. If all countries would have acted as bravely like the citizens of Denmark, ther might not have been a Holocaust. Very worthwhile reading.

I have just finished this book for the second time. I cried both times. I smiled both times. I found myself in unutterable awe of the brilliance and courage of Maggie Kirton both times. Telling her story from the house's perspective had to be the only way to tell it in full, truthful and forthright, without staring at it head-on. I loved that the characters were given the names of insects and that her mother was a peacock. It gave true insight into their personalities and made it so very easy for the reader to envision. It also struck me that her mother was the only bird. And aren't insects a good part of a bird's diet? She just ate them alive, but the firefly was her favorite snack. I would love to have Maggie to hang out with, just to have ready access to a survivor with such a beautiful mind.

This book swallowed me whole. The writing is esquisitely Brilliant and Original. The language so familiar and reminicent to me, somehow. I found the first 1/2 of the book extremely difficult to read and yet too powerful to put down. As difficult as it certainly must have been to write this; the story ebbed and flowed naturally and without haste. The house telling the story is Genius on so many levels. I don't think anyone could tell this story from a first person perspective. For me as a reader, I can't help but see that the house is inevitably a part of firefly. The home of her subconscious mind, which she seamlessly taps into. This book has made a positive impact on me personally and has unexpectedly added itself to the collection of Faith and Inspirational reminding in my own daily life. Thank You So Much for sharing your story Maggie. You have written it in such a way that I think it could truly transform those who discover it. It grabs you from the earliest incidents in the first residence that the unseen narrator embodies, the recollection of a small girl tucking her baby doll into bed wearing her clothes before she goes off to dance naked for her family's amusement, and does not release you until the last. You become like the unnamed entity, seeing all, unwilling or unable to do anything except follow and watch. Disregard negative reviews about the story being written from the perspective of the houses and referring to insects. Those reviewers obviously skipped over the author’s explanation, and anyone with an ounce of understanding about abuse victims will get it. I found her protective writing style unique and an intelligent way to relay these horrific events. My little girl (20 month old) and I love the illustrations in the book. There are so many little details to look at and it makes a great vocabulary lesson. We love the wheels on the bus song and although this one has slightly different wording than the one we know, it is still nice to get a visual. I still sing it to my daughter the way we know it and since she cant read yet she doesnt know any better. The book is the perfect size for your diaper/travel bag and it seems sturdy and well made. We are very happy with this adorable board book.

The Wheels on the Bus pudgy board book is adorable because the graphics are geared towards children and can be a springboard for other learning opportunities such as counting, facial expressions, ettiquette (politness), etc. It is quite durable and should hold up well with a lot of handling by tiny hands. The "pages" have a shiny and easy wipe-clean surface. I am pairing it with a FP Little People School Bus as a Christmas gift for my 1 1/2 year old grandchild this year. I recommend this book due to it's construction, graphics, teaching opportunities, and it contains most of the verses (or perhaps we made up some during my childhood years).

My daughter really enjoys the song so I thought I would buy her a book to go along with it. The book is really really small. Smaller than most board books. The colors look faded and dull. Was really looking forward to this book but was disappointed.

We started a tradition of bringing our little granddaughter a new board book each time we got to see her since we lived several hours apart.. It's great to be able to find a good variety of quality books for babies and toddlers in one place. The board books like this one are sung rather than read since they're based on nursery songs.I don't know who loves these board books the most, our one year old granddaughter or us!

My son loves this book, and of course you can't help but sing with it. It doesn't include all of the verses some people may be familiar with, but enough verses to be long enough without being too long. It is physically a pretty small book. My son likes to point to the dog and trucks in several of the detailed illustrations, too.

Super cute book, a classic, but it's pretty small and cheap looking. But then again, it was pretty inexpensive.

The Wheels on the Bus is another book that the verse was embroidered on a Nursery Rhymes Quilt I made for my first Great Grandson. At the shower we were asked to bring a story book instead of a card. Nicely illustrated book.
