As a member of a monthly Spiritual Book Club in New York City, I had the good fortune of having had this book assigned to me (but, then again, aren't all books assignments?). To be completely honest, I cringed upon first sight of the book's pink-hued Carrie-Bradshaw-meets-Gabby-Bernstein cover, because, after all, Your Holistically Hot Transformation seemed to be a departure from the "profound" spiritual works we had been reading recently. Now, I'm no ascended master, but I know enough at this point to surrender my resistance (and my grandiosity) when I have noticed that I have formed judgments about something in advance of experiencing it. So, I gave the book a chance. And, boy, am I glad I did.In Your Holistically Hot Transformation, Marissa Vicario offers us a simple, straightforward, nutritious, delicious, and, best of all, FUN guide to eating well and to feeling light and free in our bodies. She relates her own story of having hit nutritional and spiritual rock-bottom -- junk-food vegetarianism, fro-yo suppers, and exercise mania -- in order to demonstrate that absolutely anyone can make revolutionary changes in their eating habits out of nowhere. She challenges us to make substitutions, additions, and subtractions with respect to the go-to convenience foods in our diets, and she shows us that eating well is easy and can taste amazing. (Her Awesome Sauce recipe? Yeah, it really is awesome.) Just what I needed to start the new year! Also, finally a book I can share with friends about whole foods and holistic living without them feeling intimated by the content!
Really great book, love the real-life advice in the book, easy to read and get through. I like the mix of anecdotal personal stories from Marissa, along with scientific facts and studies AND real patient stories makes for a great read. If you are looking for a no-nonsense, no gimmick book, this is the one.
This book puts things into prospective, in real life terms. Not a bunch of gimmicks, not a bunch of pill pushing. Rather a look a baby steps for lifestyle changes. She admits to eating out of the pan, not cooking, and lacking life. It happens and she gives you ideas on baby steps to slowly shift your life when your ready.
