Book arrived in great condition. Tragic story of the multiple things that Mariatu Kamara endured, such as witnessing horrors of War and being raped and having her hands cut off by rebels. Yet she perseveres. One of the beautiful quotes in her book she says how she doesn't have hands so that she might touch others through her heart. You will definitely need to have some tissues when you read this book or perhaps wipe your eyes on your shirt. It is hard to believe how horrible the world is and reading some of the things that happened in this book to this young women at such a very young age. She perseveres and in reading her book, and in listening to her story, hopefully we can each do our tiny part to be better and make the world better.

I was introduced to this book through the book "the End of Life Book Club." Having read "Long Way Gone" by Ishmeal Beah a few years ago, it was interesting to know that the author of this book and he had once met. This book is from the opposite experience tho both were children - he a child forced to be a rebel soldier in Sierra Leone during the 1990's and Mariatu Kamara a female child amputee survivor of these soldiers. Theirs is a country so different from mine that it is hard to imagine a life of such poverty and harsh treatment much less the constant fear of being attacked by merciless soldiers. You will find this an inspirational and eye-opening book. It made me extremely grateful for the comfortable middle-class life I have led in the United States. It is good that one of the many angels Mariatu found along her journey led her to write this account of her young life so that those of us much more fortunate can appreciate and learn from the struggles of poverty and the cruelties that the many less fortunate have faced.

I have found several autobiographies by individuals who have survived some of the worst atrocities in the world to be somewhat egotistical in that their stories border on fiction [can you remember whole conversations when you were 3 and 4 years old?]. However, Ms. Kamara's story was very realistic, without a grandiose sense of self. Her story rings of true honesty, portraying her in a most realistic way: she tells us her faults as well as her ability to survive and be insightful. It was a quick read [one night!], mostly because I found myself unable to put it down. I would have liked to understand a bit more about the Canadian family and their motives for basically abandoning her [even though it appears to have been for the best] - yet it appears that even Ms. Kamara herself is not completely sure why. What her story has done for me is to read more about Sierra Leone and its history and wars - which is what I feel any good autobiography should do - inspire the reader to find out more.

Bite of the Mango is a good book. I appreciated what appeared to be a very honest story of what happened to this victim of the civil war in Sierra Leone. I felt that she gave a three dimensional picture of herself. She was a girl who was, at times, incredibly courageous and at other times very fearful. As a reader, I felt that I was made to understand both sides of her personality. I don't think that the book's purpose was to present explanations for the cause of the civil war and the incredible amount of savagery. But, the lack of background information was, for me, a shortcoming. I read this book in combination with Ishmael Beah's memoir, A Long Way Gone, and I would recommend reading the two books together.

I read about this book in "The End Of Life Book Club". This is the story of Mariatu who had lived a life of poverty in Sierra leone. She tells us the story of her village where she tells us she had been happy. However at the age of twelve, she is raped by an older man. In this same time frame, news of rebels sweep her area, and the people would hide in the bush for days, weeks, and months. Finally, she and her family are caught, and Mariatu ends with her hands cut off by rebels after watching her village burned and people killed.In her book, written with a co- author, Mariatsu asks that we bear witness to the war, to the poverty, and to the need in Sierra Leone. She doesn't crow about her own courage, although she is extraordinarily brave. She doesn't stoop to the maudlin. She shares her own times of darkness and depression when she judges herself coming short by her own measure; although not by mine.Finally she offers us the chance to bear witness.

This book is both heartbreaking and inspiring. This young girl's story brings home the horrors of war on children and the unbreakable human spirit that survives. It also shows the importance of international and personal involvement needed to help those who suffer. Highly recommended!

I found the book hard to follow as if someone had transcribed it incorrectly in English. The book did not flow well to me and left a lot of important parts out not giving a full understanding of her experience. I loved the book A Long Way Gone and decided to read this as a follow up to hear one of the victim's stories but I had a hard time finishing this book. It just wasn't a good read.

This book was a nice, quick read. Very interesting and would recommend to anyone.

While reading HTML, XHTML & CSS Bible, I was surprised to find that most of the most basic HTML markup codes have been deprecated. Classic codes which were the first codes people historically learned about markup language, like bold , italic , underline , center

and font tags have all been essentially deleted from the language while the currently preferred method to adjust these has been changed to CSS.I heard estimates of around 30 HTML tags that had been deprecated with the idea that the styling should be handled in CSS vice HTML. (Charlesworth, 1999) This left me wondering why we even have HTML any more. Is it only to define divs, ids, headlines and paragraphs, leaving all other styling to CSS.So, did CSS kill HTML?While reading about the modern website, some authors argue that you can't build a modern website without CSS and JavaScript, which certainly seems in line with other information I've read. (Marks, 2013) But the HTML/CSS Bible noted that while dozens of HMTL 4 tags have been deprecated, like the tag for background color, but it adds that dozens more tags are being added. So, it looks like the world of digital publishing is simply in transition.According to one author that flux surrounds the transition from pure document to interactive content. (Roberts, 2013) In fact, he calls it evolution. "By using coding languages such as HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, Jquery, and Ajax, the movement on the page is completely compatible with any device," Roberts explains. As for the bad reviews - my suggestion is that if you're advanced in HTML or looking for advanced techniques in CSS there are books for that, too. It takes an entire library of reference books to stay up with all the changes & aspects of this industry, and as you grow beyond the levels found here add to your collection, but this one really is important to your library!

I purchased the first two volumes , and the third did not disappoint. It's nice to see An American twist on the classic Japanese designs that are familiar to most tattooers.

So I have had this book "American Wife" sitting on my end table for about a month trying to find a good time in my busy schedule to read it. I bought the book thinking this could be beneficial to me and of course the story of Chris Kyle and his family is a huge topic of interest in many households.After starting this book I soon realized I would not be able to put it down until I finished it. Yes, I read this book in one day! All 334 pages. I thought I would be hooked because of her talk about being a military wife and of course her story on Chris Kyle's job in the military, which has always been fascinating to me.To my surprise I was only slightly hooked on those topics but felt drawn to her ideas about her faith in her marriage no matter how bad things got. Taya is so brave to reveal the darkest parts of her marriage and to speak so openly about her faith. I didn't think I would be so moved by her story, perhaps it's because I am now married and can relate. I admire how she addresses not just military families but marriages and families as a whole as there are struggles in all marriages.I also admire her loyalty to her husband even in moments where he didn't always deserve it. She never gave up even when Chris told her he wasn't sure if they would make it. She prayed to her God for the strength to work on their marriage.This book, in my opinion, is inspiring for many marriages and families in that despite the darkest parts, there is always hope, love, compassion, forgiveness, and faith.Taya believes so strongly in the sanctity of her marriage that she started her foundation to help military and first responders have healthy marriages and families. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing a good read and a new outlook or perspective on their own marriage.There is MUCH more to this book then what I have mentioned but it's what moved me the most.

Taya Kyle is tough and it shows in this book. I got to see inside of some of her life with Chris Kyle and particularly what it was like for her and the children after he was murdered. It took a lot of people to get her and her children through the murder and trial while the film about her husband was setting records. I finished the book, sad that there weren't more years for her and her children.

Taya Kyle, I want you to be one of my friends. Not for fane or ninety but for your strength. I wish you love and happiness in your long life ahead. Maybe somehow we will meet! You have inspired me beyond words. I had a stroke in 2006 and I thought what could be worse. Your strength inspires me to not be depressed. God was saying Slow Down Candi ...I have Lord! Taya, you r 1 hell of a sister in Christ. I think as long as you need to hear him, you will! No matter where you are in life. Keep listening

Having served in the military, I understand the hardships service places on families, but to this depth I was unaware. These stories touched my heart. Powerfully written and personal. Patriot! Taya has a gift and strength to her that she seems sometimes not to notice or believe, but she nailed it all when she made it through this. Thank you for sharing Mrs. Kyle!

When we think of soldiers, it is beyond an outsider's comprehension on the life of the military and their families. We all owe them a debt of gratitude. Don't turn a blind eye because it's easier. American Wife is Taya Kyle's story and an education. Recommended for commuters on the go.

Very inspiring story about Chris and Taya Kyle. Taya doesn't cover up the difficult times. She talks about struggles that many people and marriages have which makes her story more real and more relateable to all people. Her whole life was changed suddenly when Chris died, and then the lawsuit from Jesse Ventura continued. Taya shows how you can go through hellish experiences and come out the other side with the support of family and friends, and your own inner strength. It's not just a "military" book. This is good for all people who are struggling with something in their life.

Thank you Taya Kyle for so bravely telling your story of daily life with all it's joys and deep sorrows. I have taken to heart so much of what you went through and can use your advice and examples while living God's plan for myself. A truly honest and forthcoming book with a light at the end of the tunnel.

The National Geographic Little Kids books are favorites in our house. The Big Book of Dinosaurs and the World Atlas are already among our most read books, so I was excited to add this book to our collection. People often critique these books for not going into enough detail, however, I have found that they have the perfect amount of detail for little children. This book got my 3 year old boy and 6 year old girl thinking and asking questions about all sorts of people and inventions and places. They have asked to get books from the library about some of the people written about here; I even found myself learning new things. It's a nice change from the worlds of princesses and trucks that I find so many of their books are about these days. This book is full of real photos and maps, which quickly grabbed my children's attention. My 4 year old is reading and I wanted to find him nonfiction text. These National Geographic books are perfect for his reading level! The pictures are informative and engaging and the text itself is well written and easy to follow. I have purchased at least 10 of these books and my son loves them. The book itself is super sturdy too. Love that the font is large.

My 3rd grader loves these books. Asks for them for Christmas! Good info, presented in an easy to understand fashion. Great pictures. We love these books!

I bought thos National Geographic book for my 7 year old grandson. He loves reading it and keeps his young mind occupied in learning about hreat people of this world. This book is very informative, educational and colorful. I would highly recommend NG for young minds who loves to learn.

My daughter just loves this book, she's only five and has picked up pretty quickly a lot of the names and what the people are known for, her favorites being king Tut, the Beatles, and Amelia Earhart! The pictures and information in this book are great, can't wait to purchase more from national geographic!

About the Author

Rebecca Sue Perry was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in the summer of ’42. Her parents owned a grocery on Main Street. She loved movies and was active with dreams of dancing professionally. Becky participated in numerous beauty pageants. One of which landed her right into the arms of Jim Ed Brown, with whom she soon married. Becky has modeled, has taught self-improvement and dance classes. She has passions for tennis and painting. For five years, she and Jim Ed traveled the country in a RV hosting a television show called Going Our Way. Jim Ed and Becky have been blessed with two children and five grand children. She has survived breast cancer and all that goes with that. Jim Ed was diagnosed with lung cancer. While fighting it, he recorded one last album, In Style Again. They were married fifty-four years when he passed away from lung cancer.

I have always been a fan of Jim Ed Brown. He always seemed so down-to-earth. After reading this wonderful book, I feel like he and I were friends, though I never met him.This book is very well written by his wife Becky Brown. She seems to be a very talented lady and while supporting her husband totally, she was no wall flower. She pursued her own interest with vigor.This is a great read for anyone who loves country music and especially Jim Ed Brown's era in it.
