Carpenter, Jr., MD, University of Maryland School of Medicine and Maryland Psychiatric Research Center "After our son was diagnosed with schizophrenia, we spent the next four years learning about the illness and trying to help him. Answer to my prayers as far as how to manage a schizophrenic family member. Highly recommend!
A very thorough book, written so laypeople can understand it. We've been passing it around to friends and family and it has been very helpful in finding resources and strategies that work.
This will definitely be helpful.
As a mother of a son with Schizophrenia, this is the most helpful book I have read. I live in the Netherlands and give Family to Family education and I have found the information clear, useful and easy to read. Most books deal with facts and figures and the actual diagnoses and medication. This book gives helpful tips about solving problems, communication and managing stress. It also gives a realistic view of the recovery process and helps familys head off relapses.I would also advise family members to give this book to everybody who has contact with the patient. I think its would help with lowering the stigma attached to this illness.
I bought this book because I have a loved one who struggles with this illness. It has given me a better understanding of of her and that helps me to help her.
Interesting reference book in dealing with family member suffering from this disease.
Lots of informative reading... Bought 2 to share with the patient
